The Uttara Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all Anganwadi centres, primary schools, and high schools in five taluks on Tuesday, July 7, following continuous heavy rainfall and the Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the official order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, the closure will apply to educational institutions in Sirsi, Siddapur, Yellapur, Joida, and Dandeli as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid the worsening weather conditions.
The IMD has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and adverse weather over the next two days. In view of the potential risks and possible disruptions to transportation, the district administration decided to suspend classes for one day.
The Deputy Commissioner issued the order under the powers vested by the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and directed the concerned departments to ensure its effective implementation. Authorities also clarified that the academic loss due to the holiday will be compensated by conducting additional classes at a later date.
Necessary instructions have been issued to the Department of Women and Child Development and the Department of Public Instruction. The administration has also urged residents to remain cautious, follow official advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel during the period of severe weather.
