Bhatkal Among Six Uttara Kannada Taluks Added to Drought Affected List
Ankola, Haliyal, Sirsi and Bhatkal included in latest expansion of drought affected areas
Karwar: Six taluks in Uttara Kannada district have now been included in the drought affected list following the state government’s latest decision to add 29 more taluks across Karnataka.
The decision comes after ministers visited various districts to assess the drought situation and submitted their reports. In the first phase, 101 taluks were declared drought affected, followed by the addition of another 11 taluks.
Several legislators from Uttara Kannada and other districts had expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of their constituencies from the drought affected list and urged the government to reconsider the situation.
Following the latest assessment, the state government has declared 29 additional taluks as drought affected. With this addition, 217 of Karnataka’s 239 taluks are now included in the drought affected list.
In Uttara Kannada, Yellapur and Mundgod were included in the list during the first phase. The latest decision adds Ankola, Haliyal, Sirsi and Bhatkal, bringing the total number of drought affected taluks in the district to six.
The inclusion is expected to enable the affected taluks to receive relief and other government measures related to drought management.
