Video of Gujarat Police Assaulting Accused in Cow Slaughter Case Sparks Outrage
A viral video shows a man pleading for help while being beaten by police during action linked to an alleged cow slaughter case in Ahmedabad.
A video allegedly showing Gujarat police officers beating a Muslim man with sticks while tying him to the bonnet of a police vehicle has sparked widespread outrage on social media.
In the viral clip, the man can be heard crying out, “Ya Allah, bachalo” meaning “Oh Allah, save me,” as he is repeatedly assaulted. The video has led to intense debate online over the conduct of the police and the use of force against accused persons.
The incident comes shortly after police action in the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad, where three individuals were arrested on Tuesday morning for allegedly slaughtering cows in an open field near a residential locality.
According to police officials, the raid was carried out after receiving a tip off about illegal cow slaughter activities taking place behind bushes near a housing society. While several suspects reportedly escaped from the spot, three individuals were detained during the operation.
During the raid, police seized around 520 kilograms of meat estimated to be worth ₹1.56 lakh. Authorities also recovered a live calf, sharp knives, an autorickshaw, a car without a registration number plate, and a mobile phone.
A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Police have named nine persons in the case, while three have been arrested so far.
Cow slaughter is prohibited in Gujarat, and violations attract strict legal action. Meanwhile, the viral video continues to draw reactions from activists, political commentators, and members of the public questioning the manner in which the accused were treated.
