Uttara Kannada on Yellow Alert as Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Forecast for September 24

Karwar: The India Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre have forecast heavy rainfall and strong winds in Uttara Kannada district on September 24, prompting authorities to issue a Yellow Alert.

According to the forecast, winds are likely to reach speeds of 30 to 40 kmph in the district. The district administration has taken precautionary measures to ensure public safety in view of the expected weather conditions.

The District Emergency Operations Centre at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office has been placed on 24 hour alert. Residents have been advised to follow updates through the district administration’s official social media platforms and local media.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during the adverse weather conditions. Residents and tourists have also been urged to avoid visiting rivers, lakes, beaches and other water bodies and not to enter the water.

Parents have been asked to ensure that children do not go near dangerous locations. Farmers have been advised to avoid agricultural activities during heavy rain and lightning and remain in safe places.

Residents, children and workers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and take shelter in safe buildings. People should also stay away from weak trees, electric poles and fallen or exposed power lines.

The administration has urged people not to stand under trees or near old and weakened buildings. Residents who notice dilapidated houses or compound walls that could pose a danger have been asked to immediately inform the concerned authorities.

People in rural areas have been advised to exercise extreme caution while crossing canals, causeways and small bridges, particularly when water levels are high.
