Two Brothers Drown in Sirsi Dam as Elder Sibling Dies Trying to Save Younger Brother
A tragic incident near Unchalli leaves a family devastated after an elder brother loses his life while attempting to rescue his drowning sibling.

Sirsi: In a heartbreaking incident, two brothers lost their lives after drowning in a small dam near Mastijaddi close to Unchalli in Sirsi taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Sunday afternoon.The deceased have been identified as Harsha Naik, 18, and his younger brother Madan Naik, 16, natives of Mastijaddi in Honnavar taluk.
Harsha was pursuing his college education in Udupi, while Madan was a first year PUC student at Marikamba Government Pre University College in Sirsi.
According to reports, the brothers had gone to a small dam located near their family’s plantation on Sunday afternoon. During their visit, Madan reportedly entered the water and began drowning. Seeing his younger brother in distress, Harsha immediately jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him.
However, due to the depth of the water and strong currents, both brothers were swept away and drowned.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Sirsi Rural Police, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, and members of the Shri Marikamba Lifeguard team rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. After sustained efforts, the rescue teams succeeded in retrieving the bodies of both brothers.
The operation involved lifeguard team members Gopal Gowda, Raju Madival, Pradeep Esale, Deepak Kanade and Darshan Kabbe, along with police and fire service personnel.
A case has been registered at Sirsi Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The tragic death of the two brothers, particularly the elder sibling who sacrificed his life while trying to save his younger brother, has left family members and villagers in deep shock and mourning.
