Tensions Rise in UP’s Khoda After Right Wing Groups Protest Outside Mosques During Friday Prayers

Ghaziabad: Communal tensions intensified in the Khoda area of Uttar Pradesh on Friday after members of several Hindutva organisations gathered outside local mosques during Jumu’ah prayers, leading to disruptions and raising concerns among residents.

According to reports, large groups of protesters assembled near mosques while worshippers were attending Friday prayers. Residents alleged that access to some prayer venues was obstructed, causing difficulties for those arriving for congregational worship.

Videos shared on social media showed demonstrators chanting provocative slogans, including calls that many observers described as inflammatory and capable of escalating tensions.

The protests took place despite extensive security measures put in place by the administration. Police had deployed a significant force in the area, conducted flag marches led by senior officers, and used drone surveillance to monitor the situation and prevent any disturbance to public order.

Members of organisations including Hindu Raksha Dal and Rashtriya Hanuman Dal were reportedly among those participating in the demonstrations. Hindu Mahasabha leader Riya Kinnar also joined the protest and publicly supported efforts to stop congregational prayers at local mosques.

Earlier in the week, Hindu Raksha Dal state president Lalit Sharma had announced plans to oppose Friday prayers in the area and urged supporters to prevent Muslims from offering Jumu’ah prayers. He also made several controversial remarks that drew criticism from community members and rights advocates.

The developments come in the aftermath of the killing of 17 year old Surya Pratap Chauhan, who was allegedly stabbed to death following a dispute in the locality. Police later reported that the accused, identified as Asad, was killed in an encounter. Local authorities also issued a demolition notice for the accused’s residence and served notices to three madrasas in the area.

Critics have questioned these actions, arguing that measures taken after the crime have affected a wider section of the community and risk creating a sense of collective punishment.

Some right wing media outlets and independent content creators covering the developments have also faced criticism for reporting styles that critics say contributed to heightened tensions and increased fear among local residents.

Authorities continue to maintain a strong security presence in the area as efforts are made to prevent further unrest and maintain peace.
