Tensions Rise at Jantar Mantar After Hindutva Group Allegedly Threatens CJP Protesters

The atmosphere at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar turned tense after members of a Hindutva group allegedly confronted protesters participating in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) movement against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.
According to CJP leaders, a group of individuals gathered near the protest site and allegedly issued threats to demonstrators. Protesters claimed the group made provocative remarks, raising concerns about the possibility of unrest at the venue.
The controversy intensified after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed Hindutva activist Sutantra Bhardwaj making statements about the protest. In the video, he is heard claiming that members of Hindutva organisations would gather in large numbers and respond to the ongoing demonstrations. CJP national spokesperson Saurav Das also levelled serious allegations against Bhardwaj, claiming he was involved in an assault during the party’s earlier “Sansad Chalo” march in which a protester’s father sustained serious head injuries. Das urged Delhi Police to register a case under relevant legal provisions, including the SC and ST Act, and take immediate preventive action.
The party further alleged that several videos shared online show individuals in plain clothes carrying sticks and attacking students and CJP supporters. It also claimed that one video appears to show a police officer throwing stones at protesters. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Human rights advocates and civil society groups have expressed concern over reports of threats against peaceful demonstrators and have called for authorities to ensure the safety of all protesters while upholding the rule of law.
As of the time of publication, neither Delhi Police nor Sutantra Bhardwaj had issued an official response to the allegations made by the CJP.
