Small Literary Gatherings Have Greater Lasting Impact Than Large Poetry Events, Says Maulana Abdul Mateen Muniri
Speakers at a poetry gathering in Bhatkal highlighted the importance of literary forums in preserving culture and encouraging young writers.

Bhatkal: A poetry gathering organised by Mahfil Shaer o Adab Bhatkal was held at Mahed Imam Hassan Al Banna Shaheed, bringing together several well known poets and literature enthusiasts from the town.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, Maulana Abdul Mateen Muniri said that small literary gatherings often leave a deeper and more meaningful impact than large public poetry events. He said that although the gathering was modest in size, its influence on literature and culture could be far greater than that of bigger programmes.
Maulana Muniri stressed that literary and cultural traditions can only thrive through regular poetry sessions and intellectual discussions. He expressed hope that such events in Bhatkal would continue to promote literature and inspire young writers to develop their creative talents.
Earlier, Syed Ahmed Salik Nadwi, a representative of Mahfil Shaer o Adab, explained the purpose behind organising the event. He said the organisation has been conducting themed and open poetry sessions for the past three years to encourage literary activities in the region.
Salik Nadwi also spoke about the group’s ongoing poetry initiative titled Arz Hai. He said that 1,090 selected couplets have so far been shared daily across various social media platforms to promote Urdu literature among readers.
The poetry session was chaired by Dr Mohammed Hanif Shabab. Poets including Rahmatullah Rahmat, Maulvi Jafar Sawan Nadwi, Maulvi Raif Kola Nadwi, Maulvi Shukran Khan Ghazi Nadwi, Irfan Jaser, and Syed Ahmed Salik Nadwi presented their poems and received warm appreciation from the audience.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Hafiz Hilal Ruknuddin, followed by a naat presented by Asad Qazi, a student of Jamia Islamia.
At the conclusion of the event, Mahfil Shaer o Adab General Secretary Maulvi Raif Kola thanked the participants and guests. The programme was hosted by Syed Ahmed Salik Nadwi and concluded with refreshments at around 11 pm. Several respected members of the Bhatkal community attended the gathering.
