Patna witnessed a major political shift on Wednesday as Samrat Choudhary officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar. With this, he becomes the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold the top post in the state.

The oath ceremony was held at Lok Bhawan, where Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office to Choudhary.

Alongside him, Janata Dal United leaders Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were also sworn in as ministers. Both leaders will serve as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government.

Choudhary’s appointment comes after days of political uncertainty. He was chosen as the leader of both the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA alliance on Tuesday. His selection followed shortly after Nitish Kumar resigned from the Chief Minister’s post, ending his long tenure as the state’s longest serving leader.

Nitish Kumar had recently shifted to national politics, becoming a member of the Rajya Sabha last week.
