Religious Chants Heard on IndiGo Flight After BJP’s Big Win in West Bengal
A viral video captured passengers celebrating BJP’s election victory with slogans as political tensions rose across West Bengal.

A video showing passengers chanting religious and patriotic slogans on an IndiGo flight has gone viral following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s decisive victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections.
The video, which surfaced on May 6, shows one passenger leading chants including “Jai Shri Ram,” “Har Har Mahadev,” “Jai Durga,” “Jai Bangla,” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Several other passengers on the flight were seen joining in the celebration.
The incident comes at a time when political and communal tensions are being reported from different parts of West Bengal after the election results were announced.
Adding to the political debate, senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari made remarks saying he would focus on the interests of Hindus who supported the party. He also claimed that a large section of Muslim voters had backed Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress.
The BJP further improved its performance in the 294 member Assembly after a recount in the Rajarhat New Town constituency. BJP candidate Piyush Kanodia defeated TMC leader Tapash Chatterjee by 309 votes, increasing the party’s final seat count from 206 to 207.
The election outcome marks a major shift in West Bengal politics, ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15 year rule in the state. In another major setback for the TMC, Mamata Banerjee lost the high profile Bhabanipur constituency to Suvendu Adhikari.
With a vote share of nearly 45 percent, significantly higher than in the 2021 elections, the BJP emerged as the dominant political force in the state. The TMC, meanwhile, saw a sharp drop in both seats and vote share, signalling a historic change in Bengal’s political landscape.
