Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday intensified his criticism of the Central government and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following the alleged leak of the NEET UG 2026 question paper.

In a series of posts on X, Gandhi compared the latest controversy with the NEET UG 2024 paper leak case. He pointed out that the 2024 examination was not cancelled despite allegations of a leak. At that time, the government had announced a CBI investigation and formed a committee to examine the issue, but no minister stepped down.

Referring to the current controversy, Gandhi said the same pattern was repeating in 2026. He stated that the paper had allegedly leaked again, the examination had now been cancelled, and another CBI investigation and committee had been announced, yet no accountability had been fixed.

The Congress MP also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue. He asked why the Education Minister had not been removed despite repeated controversies surrounding national examinations. Gandhi further criticised the government for failing to stop paper leaks and claimed students were continuously suffering because of poor administration.

A day earlier, Gandhi released a video statement alleging that the NEET UG 2026 question paper had been circulated two days before the exam. He claimed there was a larger network involving politically connected individuals and ideological influence within educational institutions, which he said was damaging the country’s education system.

He also raised concerns about the appointment process of Vice Chancellors in universities, alleging that political and ideological preferences were being given more importance than merit and academic qualifications.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency has cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination and announced that the re examination will be held on June 21.

The controversy has once again triggered a nationwide debate over the credibility and security of competitive examinations in India, placing the Education Ministry under intense political scrutiny.
