Nationwide Bank Strike From September 28 to 30, Banks to Open on Sunday
Public sector banks to remain operational on September 27 to help customers complete essential transactions before the three day strike

New Delhi: Public sector banks across India will remain operational on Sunday, September 27, ahead of a three day nationwide strike scheduled from September 28 to 30.
The decision has been taken to reduce disruption to banking services, as September 26 is the fourth Saturday and September 27 is a Sunday. Without the special Sunday opening, customers could have faced several consecutive days of limited banking services.
According to the announcement, public sector banks, Regional Rural Banks, branch offices, ATM linked branches and currency chests will function normally on September 27.
The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions, which represents a large section of the banking workforce. The unions are demanding a five day banking week, pension related changes, a uniform Dearness Allowance formula for pensioners and an option for National Pension System subscribers to return to the Old Pension Scheme.
Conciliation talks between the unions and the government have reportedly failed to reach an agreement, leading to the planned strike.
The timing is significant as September 30 marks the half yearly financial closing for banks. Bank managements and the government have appealed to the unions to reconsider the strike.
Customers have been advised to complete important branch related transactions before the strike and use digital banking services, including UPI, mobile banking and ATMs, where available.
