Monsoon Rains Return to Bhatkal and Coastal Karnataka After Weeks of Dry Weather
Fresh rainfall across coastal Karnataka brings relief to residents and renewed hope for farmers.

Bhatkal: After several weeks of below normal rainfall, residents of Bhatkal and other parts of coastal Karnataka finally received welcome relief as rain showers returned on Sunday morning.
The arrival of rain has eased concerns among local communities and brought renewed optimism to farmers who had been worried about the prolonged dry spell affecting agricultural activities.
The India Meteorological Department had earlier indicated signs of a revival in monsoon activity. Those forecasts are now beginning to materialize, with rainfall reported across several regions. Weather experts say a strengthening rain bearing system over central India is expected to support increased monsoon activity in the coming days.
According to the meteorological department, significant rainfall is likely between June 19 and June 25 in Chhattisgarh, eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, and the Vidarbha region. These areas had been experiencing intense heat and a shortage of rainfall in recent weeks, creating challenges for both residents and farmers.
Monsoon conditions are also improving across southern India. Rainfall has continued in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Kerala. In coastal Karnataka, districts including Bhatkal, Mangaluru, Udupi, Honnavar, and Karwar witnessed pleasant weather and steady rainfall from the morning, with several locations recording good precipitation.
The weather department has forecast further heavy rainfall across coastal Karnataka over the next few days. Rain activity is also expected to increase in parts of north and south interior Karnataka.
Agricultural experts say the return of monsoon rains is encouraging for farmers, especially as concerns had been growing over the impact of dry conditions on paddy cultivation and other crops. They believe continued rainfall in the coming days will strengthen farming operations and help improve water storage levels across the region.
The fresh showers have also provided much needed relief from the heat and humidity that had troubled residents in recent weeks. Farmers remain hopeful that the renewed monsoon activity will support a productive agricultural season this year.
