KRMO Launches Statewide Campaign Urging Karnataka Government to Deliver on Election Promises
Muslim umbrella body gives the Congress government until August 5 to act on key commitments, including restoring the 2B reservation and increasing minority welfare funding.
The Karnataka Rajya Muslim Okkuta, known as KRMO, has launched a statewide campaign urging the Karnataka Congress government to fulfill the promises it made to the Muslim community before the 2023 Assembly elections.
Speaking at a press conference at the Press Club in Bengaluru on Monday, KRMO coordinator Suhail Ahmad Maroor said several important assurances remain unfulfilled despite the government being in office for more than three years. He said the immediate restoration of the 2B reservation category for Muslims is the organization’s top priority and described it as a demand that cannot be delayed.
Maroor also highlighted several other pending issues. These include stronger action against hate speech, changes to the anti cow slaughter law, the repeal of anti conversion legislation, implementation of the caste census report, an allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for minority welfare, better protection of Waqf properties, and fair political representation for minority communities.
According to KRMO, the organization held a large convention at Bengaluru’s Town Hall on May 16, after which it submitted a detailed report on the government’s performance along with a booklet in three languages to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, and legislators. The group said its public campaign played a role in the government’s decision to remove restrictions on the hijab shortly after the convention was announced.
KRMO has now planned a series of awareness programmes that will continue until August 5. Convenor Yahya Damudi said the campaign will involve mosque committees, religious scholars, and community organizations across Karnataka. Activities will include public meetings, distribution of informational material, signature campaigns after Friday prayers, and direct engagement with elected representatives.
The campaign will conclude with a large state level convention in Davanagere, where KRMO will release an updated report assessing the government’s progress on its election promises. KRMO representatives Haris Siddiqui and Tanveer Ahmad were also present during the announcement.
