Free Textbooks and Notebooks for Students from LKG to Class 12 Starting Next Academic Year
Karnataka government expands education support with free learning materials and 900 new KPS schools.

Shivamogga: Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced on Monday that students studying from LKG to Class 12 will be provided free textbooks and notebooks from the next academic year. The initiative aims to strengthen access to education and reduce the financial burden on families across the state.
Addressing the media in Shivamogga, the minister said the government is giving top priority to improving the quality of education. As part of this effort, the state had earlier approved the establishment of 500 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS).
However, to ensure better facilities and bring all educational resources under one roof, the government has now increased the number of KPS schools to 900. The project has been approved at a total cost of ₹3,500 crore.
Mr. Bangarappa also informed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the new KPS schools in February or March. The launch event is expected to take place in Shivamogga district.
The expanded KPS initiative is designed to offer improved infrastructure and uniform educational facilities, helping students across Karnataka receive quality education without financial barriers.
