Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said the state government will organise the ‘Pragatiyatta Karnataka’ convention in Tumakuru on May 19 to highlight the achievements of the Congress government after completing three years in office.

The programme will be held at the Junior College Grounds in Tumakuru on Tuesday. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda are expected to participate in the event along with Parameshwara.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru after reviewing the preparations, Parameshwara dismissed speculation that the event in his home district was intended as a political show of strength. He said the main objective was to inform people about the government’s work and the implementation of promises made during the Assembly elections.

“We want to tell the people that the promises made to them have been fulfilled and action has been taken accordingly,” he said.

According to the minister, the convention will include the distribution of beneficiary letters to 1,52,000 people under various Revenue Department schemes. Programmes related to the conversion of revenue villages falling under municipal limits will also be part of the event.

Parameshwara said the people of Karnataka have the right to know about the work carried out by the government during the last three years.

Clarifying reports about possible participation of Congress high command leaders, he said the programme was entirely organised by the government and had no connection with internal party matters.

“This is not a party programme. We have not invited anyone from the high command,” he said.

The minister also spoke about the government’s plans for the remaining two years of its term. He said most of the short term commitments mentioned in the Congress manifesto had already been implemented and the focus would now shift towards long term infrastructure and irrigation projects.

“When we prepared the manifesto, we planned both short term and long term goals. Most of the short term commitments that needed to be completed within three years have already been implemented,” he added.
