Kanpur B.Tech Gold Medallist Dies by Suicide After Repeated Government Job Attempts

A 28 year old B.Tech gold medallist allegedly died by suicide in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after years of trying to secure a government job. According to reports, he had appeared for around 50 recruitment examinations but was unable to achieve a final selection.

Before his death, the engineering graduate left behind a brief note addressed to his father. In the note, he apologised and wrote that despite making repeated attempts to obtain a government job, he had not succeeded. Reports indicate that he often cleared the early stages of recruitment exams but was either eliminated in the final rounds or affected by delays in the recruitment process.

Police said the body was recovered from his residence and sent for a post mortem examination. Initial findings suggest that he had been struggling with depression and had become increasingly withdrawn from family members and friends in recent months.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media about the intense competition for government jobs in India and the growing pressure faced by young aspirants. Every year, millions of candidates compete for a limited number of vacancies, leaving many to cope with prolonged uncertainty and disappointment.

Mental health experts and student welfare groups say the tragedy highlights the urgent need for stronger emotional support systems for students and job seekers. They stress that academic success alone cannot protect individuals from the psychological impact of repeated setbacks and career uncertainty.
