Kacheguda Murudeshwar Express Extended to Kumta, Inauguration Held Today
The long standing demand of passengers in Uttara Kannada has been fulfilled with the extension of the Kacheguda Murudeshwar biweekly express service to Kumta.

Karwar: Railway passengers in Uttara Kannada district have received a major boost as the Kacheguda Murudeshwar Biweekly Express has been extended up to Kumta. The extended service was officially inaugurated at Kumta Railway Station on Saturday afternoon.
The extension comes following efforts by Uttara Kannada Member of Parliament Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri. Along with the launch of the extended train service, several railway development projects and upgraded passenger facilities were also inaugurated.
Train numbers 12789 and 12790, which previously operated between Kacheguda and Murudeshwar, have been extended to Kumta from June 19. MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri flagged off the extended service during the inauguration ceremony.
In addition to Kumta, railway infrastructure improvements and enhanced passenger amenities completed at Murudeshwar, Gokarna and Bhatkal railway stations were also inaugurated jointly from Kumta station.
The event was attended by Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty, Konkan Railway Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Santosh Kumar Jha, divisional railway officials, senior railway officers, and representatives of the district and local administration.
According to railway authorities, Train No. 12789 Kacheguda Kumta Biweekly Express, which operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays, will depart from Kumta at 2.40 pm and reach Murudeshwar at 4.02 pm. Similarly, Train No. 12790 Kumta Kacheguda Biweekly Express will leave Kumta at 3.25 pm.
The extension of the service is expected to benefit local residents, tourists visiting the coastal region, and devotees travelling towards Tirupati, providing improved connectivity and greater travel convenience.
