Jamia Islamia Bhatkal Holds Condolence Meeting for Maulana Dr Saeedur Rahman Azmi Nadwi
Scholars recall his decades of contributions to Arabic literature, journalism, education and Islamic scholarship
Bhatkal: Jamia Islamia Bhatkal held a condolence meeting on Thursday morning following the passing of Maulana Dr Saeedur Rahman Azmi Nadwi, Principal of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow, and a renowned Arabic scholar, writer and journalist.
The meeting, held at 11 AM, was attended by the management and teaching staff of Jamia Islamia Bhatkal. Speakers recalled Maulana Dr Saeedur Rahman Azmi Nadwi’s decades of academic, journalistic and educational contributions and highlighted various aspects of his personality and legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Nadwatul Ulama Shura member Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Nadwi spoke about Maulana Azmi Nadwi’s long association with the Nadwa tradition. He described him as one of the prominent scholars of the later generation of the Nadwa school and recalled his close association with the institution for several decades.
Maulana Ilyas Nadwi also highlighted the scholarly and ethical traditions of Nadwatul Ulama, particularly its respect for senior teachers who have devoted decades of service to the institution. He said such teachers are traditionally treated with honour and respect even in their later years.
Speaking about Maulana Azmi Nadwi’s personality, Maulana Ilyas said that although he carried a strong presence and commanded great respect, he showed exceptional affection and warmth towards those who met him. He also recalled his deep connection with senior scholars and his extensive knowledge of developments in the Arab world through his long association with the Arabic journal Al Baath Al Islami.
Jamia Islamia Bhatkal administrator Maulana Talha Nadwi recalled the strong impression made by Maulana Azmi Nadwi’s personality. Maulana Khwaja Moinuddin Nadwi Madani highlighted his long service in educating and mentoring generations of students and scholars.
He also spoke about Maulana Azmi Nadwi’s contribution to the revival and development of Arabic language and literature under the guidance of Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi and in association with Maulana Muhammad Al Hasani.
Maulana Abdul Mateen Muniri spoke about Maulana Azmi Nadwi’s expertise in Arabic journalism and his deep understanding of developments across the Arab world. He said his writings helped readers in the Arab world understand developments and issues concerning their own societies. He also highlighted his contribution to Arabic literature and journalism.
Maulana Abdul Rab Nadwi, Maulana Abdul Azeem Nadwi and other speakers also remembered Maulana Azmi Nadwi as a scholar of international stature. They recalled his punctuality, his deep respect for senior scholars, particularly Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi, and his strong attachment to the Quran.
The speakers and attendees prayed for the elevation of Maulana Dr Saeedur Rahman Azmi Nadwi’s status in the Hereafter and for Nadwatul Ulama to be blessed with a worthy successor.
The meeting was conducted by Jamia Islamia Bhatkal Principal Maulana Maqbool Ahmed Nadwi, who recalled several aspects of Maulana Azmi Nadwi’s relationship with Jamia Islamia and Bhatkal. He urged those present to learn from and adopt the qualities that distinguished the late scholar.
