Iran’s IRGC Claims Renewed Control Over Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions With US
Tehran signals tighter oversight of key shipping route, citing ongoing restrictions on Iranian vessels

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has stated that control over the Strait of Hormuz has returned to what it described as its “previous state,” following continued tensions with the United States.
In a statement issued by its joint military command and reported by state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the IRGC accused the US of maintaining what it called a blockade on Iranian ports. It alleged that Washington has been carrying out “acts of piracy and maritime theft” under the pretext of enforcing restrictions.
The statement said that, in response, Iranian armed forces have stepped up their control and monitoring of the strategic waterway, one of the world’s most critical routes for global oil shipments.
Iran further warned that the current situation would continue unless the US allows full freedom of navigation for Iranian vessels traveling to and from international destinations. Until then, the IRGC indicated that the Strait would remain under strict oversight.
The development highlights rising maritime tensions in the region, with the Strait of Hormuz continuing to play a central role in global trade and geopolitical stability.
