The centre was inaugurated by Karnataka’s IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge, in the presence of scientists, officials, and industry representatives. Speaking at the event, he highlighted Karnataka’s long standing leadership in technology and said the new facility would further strengthen its role in the space sector.

The Centre of Excellence will focus on advanced research, innovation, and skill development. It will also support startups, offer industry oriented training, and promote the use of space technologies across sectors such as agriculture, climate monitoring, disaster management, communication systems, life sciences, and national security.

Priyank Kharge also noted that the state government is exploring the development of satellites under the theme “Space Technology for Social Impact.” He emphasised the need for shared technical infrastructure to support the growing demands of the space industry and said discussions with stakeholders would continue.

As part of its expansion plans, the centre has entered into partnerships with Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Helogen Corporation, Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises, and Dassault Systèmes. These collaborations will focus on areas such as space biotechnology, startup incubation, and skill development.

Officials believe the centre will play an important role in driving innovation, supporting entrepreneurs, and creating new opportunities in India’s rapidly expanding space economy.
