Three Day Majma Imam Al Shafii Al Alami Seminar Concludes in Chennai
Proposals presented on four contemporary issues as more than 300 delegates take part in the three day scholarly gathering
Chennai: The three day seminar organised by Majma Imam Al Shafii Al Alami and hosted by its Tamil Nadu unit concluded successfully at the historic Periamet Mosque in Chennai.
The opening session and four scholarly sessions of the seminar were held at Haj House, where scholars and researchers discussed four important contemporary issues. Based on the research and views presented during the sessions, detailed proposals were prepared and placed before the delegates during the concluding session at Periamet Mosque.
Addressing the closing session, Maulana Abdul Subhan Nadwi, a teacher at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow, stressed the need to promote not only Shafii jurisprudence but also the broader intellectual approach of Imam Al Shafii.
He said resolving issues related to divorce is an important responsibility of scholars. At the same time, he said scholars should also study the causes behind marital problems and guide people away from prohibited practices and wrongdoing.
Maulana Abdul Subhan Nadwi emphasised that every practice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is part of Islam and that Shafii jurisprudence is also rooted in the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ.
Speaking about Imam Al Shafii, he highlighted his contribution in bringing scholars together at a time when differences between followers of different schools of thought were often intense. He also noted Imam Al Shafii’s engagement with members of the family of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the pursuit of religious knowledge.
Maulana Abdul Mateen Muniri, Vice President of Jamia Islamia, expressed his appreciation for the seminar and praised the efforts of young scholars in addressing contemporary issues. Referring to the late Maulana Qazi Mujahidul Islam, he said that serving Islam is not limited to writing major books. Finding solutions to modern problems in the light of the Quran and Sunnah is also an important form of religious service.
Maulana Muhammad Sadiq, administrator of Jamia Hussainia Shriwardhan, explained that the main objective of such seminars is to provide guidance to the Muslim community by studying emerging issues and developing solutions based on established Islamic sources.
He said the seminar brings together the research and findings of numerous books and provides scholars and the wider academic community with an opportunity to benefit from them in a concise form. He also suggested that experts from relevant professional fields should be consulted when studying complex contemporary issues, particularly those related to business and commerce.
Maulana Mufti Abdul Aziz Lahji, in his remarks, appreciated the scholarly services of Majma Imam Al Shafii Al Alami and praised the efforts being made to address contemporary issues. He also suggested expanding academic work in the field of Shafii jurisprudence.
During the final session, proposals on four major issues were presented before the delegates. Maulana Mufti Faiyaz Ahmed Baramare presented the proposals concerning Friday prayer and migration. Maulana Mufti Abdul Kareem Nadwi presented the proposals on travel and recreation, while Mufti Qazi Ashfaq presented the proposals related to issues concerning gold and silver. Maulana Mufti Tanveer Pawale presented the proposals concerning Mudarabah.
The delegates discussed the proposals and shared their views. Following minor amendments based on the discussions, the proposals were approved.
More than 300 delegates participated in the three day seminar, which brought together scholars and researchers from different regions for discussions on contemporary issues from the perspective of Shafii jurisprudence.
Present on the stage during the concluding session were Sheikhul Hadith of Jamia Hussainia Shriwardhan Maulana Ibrahim, Qazi Jamaat ul Muslimeen Bhatkal Maulana Abdul Rab Nadwi, President of Majma Imam Al Shafii Al Alami Muhammad Rafiq Purkar and General Secretary Maulana Ubaidullah Nadwi, among others.
The session was moderated by Maulana Tariq Anwar. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Abdul Kareem Hazrat, followed by a concluding dua by Maulana Ibrahim at the historic Periamet Mosque.
