Head Constable Dies by Suicide at Shivamogga Police Station, Leaves Note Alleging Harassment
A 55-year-old police head constable was found dead at the western traffic police station in Shivamogga, with officials confirming he left behind a note mentioning workplace issues.

A head constable attached to the western traffic police station in Shivamogga has died by suicide, leaving behind a note that has raised serious questions about his working conditions.
The deceased officer, identified as Mohammed Zakriya (55), was discovered hanging in the lock-up area behind the police station during night hours. Authorities confirmed that he left a death note which was shared in a WhatsApp group, containing allegations of harassment by colleagues at the station.
According to police sources, Zakriya had been on leave for several days before returning to duty three days prior to the incident. On his final shift, he was stationed near the Shivamogga bus stand for night duty before returning to the police station, where the tragic incident occurred.
Superintendent of Police Nikhil B visited the scene following the discovery. Speaking to reporters, he revealed that Zakriya had been dealing with health problems. “The officer was suffering from certain health issues. A death note was forwarded in a WhatsApp group where he mentioned allegations of harassment by station staff,” SP Nikhil stated.
The officer’s family has been notified about the incident. Police officials have said they will conduct a detailed investigation once a formal complaint is filed by the family members.
The incident has sparked concern about the mental health and working conditions of police personnel, who often work under high-stress environments.
