Hailstorm and Heavy Rain Bring Relief but Cause Chaos in Bengaluru
Sudden downpour cools soaring temperatures while triggering flooding and disruption across the city

Bangalore: A sudden spell of heavy rain accompanied by a hailstorm brought much needed relief to residents of Bengaluru on Wednesday, after days of intense summer heat.
The city had been experiencing high temperatures touching 37 degrees Celsius. The arrival of strong winds, thunder, and rain helped cool the atmosphere significantly, offering respite to people struggling with the scorching conditions.
However, the relief was short lived as the heavy downpour quickly led to widespread waterlogging. Within just a couple of hours, several areas were flooded, with waist deep water reported in localities such as Richmond Town and Shanthinagar, turning streets into flowing streams.
Even the Vidhana Soudha, which houses key government offices, was not spared. Rainwater entered parts of the building, including offices inside, disrupting normal operations. The office of Opposition leader R Ashoka in the Karnataka Assembly was also affected by flooding.
The timing of the rain added to the inconvenience, as it began during the evening rush hour. Many office workers faced difficulties commuting back home due to waterlogged roads and traffic disruptions.
In addition, strong winds led to uprooted trees in several parts of the city, including Malleswaram, Shanthinagar, and Seshadripuram, further adding to the chaos.
