Bhatkal: Uttara Kannada District Police have confirmed that four separate cases have been registered at Bhatkal Town Police Station following the tense situation reported near the disputed structure close to National Highway 66.

According to an official press note issued by the district police on May 25, the issue began after work was taken up to shift a small religious structure located near the NH 66 service road area. Police said the work was linked to road widening and safety related concerns.

The press note stated that a small platform built for shifting the structure was damaged on May 24, after which tension spread in the area.

Police said four cases have been registered in connection with the incident.

The first case, registered under Crime No. 70/2026, is related to damage caused at the site.

The second case, registered under Crime No. 71/2026, is related to obstruction of police duty.

The third case, registered under Crime No. 72/2026, concerns assault and injury allegations.

The fourth case, registered under Crime No. 73/2026, is linked to a provocative video allegedly circulated on social media.

Police said action is being taken as per law in all four cases.

The notice also confirmed that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS 2023 have been imposed in Bhatkal Town and Bhatkal Rural Police Station limits from 6:00 am on May 25 to 6:00 am on May 27.

Authorities have warned the public not to gather unlawfully, spread rumours, circulate provocative posts or create any disturbance during this period.

Police have also appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with officials. They said strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the order or disturbing public harmony.
