Ensure Minority Welfare Schemes Reach Every Eligible Beneficiary, Says Nisar Ahmed in Karwar
Karnataka State Minorities Commission Chairman directs officials to improve access to education, loans, and welfare benefits for minority communities.

Karwar: Karnataka State Minorities Commission Chairman Nisar Ahmed has urged government departments to ensure that welfare schemes and development programmes meant for minority communities effectively reach every eligible beneficiary.
He was speaking during a review meeting held at the District Collector’s office on Tuesday to assess the implementation of the Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities.
During the meeting, Ahmed stressed the importance of providing quality education to all children belonging to minority communities. He instructed officials from the Education Department and the Women and Child Development Department to closely monitor school attendance and ensure that no child drops out of school.
He also directed authorities to address teacher shortages in minority educational institutions and provide essential infrastructure such as toilets and safe drinking water facilities. Further, he asked officials to submit a detailed report within ten days containing data on student enrolment, school dropouts, and SSLC examination attendance over the past decade.
Highlighting educational opportunities, Ahmed noted that banks provide education loans of up to ₹7.5 lakh without collateral. He encouraged students from minority communities to take advantage of these facilities for higher education and directed the Lead Bank officials to increase the number of education loans sanctioned to deserving students.
The Commission Chairman also reminded urban local bodies that government guidelines require 15 percent of welfare funds to be spent on the development of minority communities. He instructed all municipal bodies in the district to strictly comply with this provision.
Referring to civic issues in Bhatkal, Ahmed called for an early solution to problems related to the town’s drainage system, which has been causing inconvenience to residents.
He further directed the Labour Department to organize special outreach camps in minority dominated areas across all taluks of the district to ensure people are informed about and benefit from government welfare schemes. He specifically instructed officials to conduct a camp in Bhatkal within a week and submit a report on the initiative.
The meeting was attended by District Collector K. Lakshmipriya, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dileesh Shashi, Superintendent of Police Deepan, Special Duty Officer Mujibulla Jafari, District Minority Welfare Officer Satish, and officials from various departments involved in implementing the Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme.
