Elderly Man Cheated of Rs 12 Lakh in Fake Medical Treatment Scam
Fraudsters allegedly duped a senior citizen by promising a cure for his wife’s cancer and paralysis through expensive Ayurvedic medicines.

A 68 year old man from Bellam in Karkala has reportedly been cheated of more than Rs 12 lakh after being misled with false promises of medical treatment for his seriously ill wife.
The victim, Ronald Rodrigues, had returned from abroad and was deeply worried about the health of his wife Rosy, who has been suffering from cancer and paralysis. During this difficult period, he came into contact with a man named Siddharth in Udupi.
According to the complaint, Siddharth gained the family’s trust by claiming that Ayurvedic treatment could completely cure Rosy’s condition. He later introduced Ronald to two other associates, identified as Madhav and Anil.
The accused allegedly convinced the elderly man to purchase costly medicines and collected money in several installments through Google Pay transfers, cash payments, and bank cheques. In total, the victim is said to have paid Rs 12.08 lakh.
However, despite using the medicines, Rosy’s health showed no improvement. Suspicion grew after the accused persons allegedly switched off their mobile phones and became unreachable.
Realising that he had been deceived, Ronald Rodrigues approached the police and filed a complaint at the Karkala Town Police Station.
Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to trace the group involved in the alleged fraud.
