DK, Udupi, Uttara Kannada Among 25 Districts Under Yellow Alert as IMD Predicts Heavy Rain
Pre-monsoon showers intensify across Karnataka, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorm warnings over the next five days

India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 25 districts across Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, forecasting widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over the next five days.
The pre-monsoon system has been gaining strength, bringing both relief from intense summer heat and concerns over storm activity. In the past 32 hours, Hassan recorded the highest rainfall at 61.5 mm, with several other districts also witnessing moderate to heavy showers.
In the coastal belt, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and neighbouring Kasargod, weather conditions are expected to remain humid and cloudy. While daytime sunshine may persist, evening thunderstorms are likely, especially along the Uttara Kannada, Belagavi and Dharwad border regions, as well as in foothill areas.
Rainfall activity is expected to increase further from April 29, with wind pressure and high temperatures contributing to scattered showers across coastal and interior regions.
In the Malnad region, Kodagu is likely to receive regular evening thunderstorms, while parts of Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga may also experience rain accompanied by thunder. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in surrounding areas, with intensity set to gradually increase.
Northern interior districts such as Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri and Ballari are forecast to receive evening and night showers. Other areas could also see rain depending on wind conditions, while high temperatures are likely to persist in southern interior districts.
On April 29, a yellow alert has been issued for 25 districts, including Bengaluru. Moderate rainfall is expected in districts such as Bidar, Kalaburagi and Vijayapura.
The alert will continue on April 30 for 24 districts, with rainfall expected in Bidar, Belagavi, Bagalkote, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. By May 1, the alert will cover 19 districts, including Raichur, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru and Mandya.
Rainfall data over the past 32 hours shows widespread activity, with significant showers recorded in districts such as Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Haveri, Ballari, Dakshina Kannada, Tumakuru, Vijayapura, Chitradurga and Kalaburagi.
In Bengaluru, light showers were reported in several areas, including Majestic and surrounding zones. The city remains under a yellow alert for the next four days, with residents advised to stay cautious.
While the rainfall is expected to ease the summer heat and benefit agriculture, authorities have warned of possible lightning and thunderstorms. People working in open areas, especially farmers and plantation workers, have been advised to take precautions. Urban residents and motorists have also been cautioned about potential waterlogging in low-lying areas.
With rainfall activity expected to intensify into early May, Karnataka appears to be steadily transitioning toward the upcoming monsoon season.
