Chairing the meeting at the Kumta Assistant Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, the minister said that water tankers must be deployed without delay in areas where natural water sources have dried up. He further ordered that tanker owners should receive payments within 15 days to avoid disruptions in supply.

Expressing dissatisfaction over delays under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Vaidya said that despite projects worth nearly Rs 100 crore being taken up in each taluk, not a single scheme had been completed successfully. He stressed that there was no shortage of funds for solving water related issues. According to him, Rs 25 lakh has already been released to each taluk task force, while an additional Rs 3 crore will soon be made available.

During the meeting, MLA Bhimanna Naik highlighted the severe water crisis affecting 33 gram panchayats in Sirsi and Siddapur. He also demanded the establishment of helplines at tahsildar offices to address public grievances more efficiently.

The minister also raised concerns over the long pending national highway work between Karwar and Bhatkal, which has reportedly faced delays for nearly 15 years. He instructed officials to lay a layer of tar on the Sirsi Haveri highway before the monsoon season to reduce dust and improve travel conditions.

In preparation for the rains, district authorities were directed to clean drainage systems, maintain adequate stocks of electricity poles and transformers, and remove dangerous trees located near schools and public places.

The meeting was attended by MLA Dinakar Shetty, Superintendent of Police Deepak M.N., Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajid Mulla, and several senior officials.
