Karwar: In view of the ongoing monsoon season and the possibility of natural disasters, the Karnataka government has issued an important order appointing district level disaster management overseers to strengthen monitoring and speed up relief operations.

As per the government notification, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader Fareed has been appointed as the Natural Disaster Overseer for Uttara Kannada district until further orders.

In addition to Uttara Kannada, he has also been given responsibility for overseeing disaster management activities in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts.

The initiative aims to ensure quick coordination with district administrations and the timely execution of rescue and relief measures in the event of heavy rainfall, floods, landslides or any other natural calamities during the monsoon season.

The Karnataka government has officially assigned disaster management oversight responsibilities to 13 leaders, including the Deputy Chief Minister and several cabinet ministers, covering different districts across the state.

According to the government, the arrangement will remain in effect until further orders. Officials believe the move will help authorities take quicker decisions at the local level during emergencies, accelerate relief efforts and improve overall monitoring of district level disaster management activities.
