Lucknow: A devastating fire at a coaching centre in Lucknow’s Aliganj area has claimed at least 15 lives, most of them students, and left several others injured. The tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a massive blaze engulfed a commercial building housing a coaching institute and other establishments.
According to reports, the fire spread rapidly through the building, filling the premises with thick smoke and trapping many students inside. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, several students jumped from upper floors, while others struggled to find safe exits amid the chaos. Rescue teams, firefighters, police personnel, and local authorities rushed to the scene and launched a large scale evacuation operation.
Witnesses said panic spread quickly as the flames intensified. Emergency responders had to carry out difficult rescue operations, with some reports indicating that firefighters broke through parts of the building to reach those trapped inside. Several injured students were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, and some remain in critical condition.
The tragedy prompted an immediate response from the Uttar Pradesh government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed senior officials to supervise relief and rescue operations. He also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and instructed authorities to identify any lapses in safety measures.
Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the fire, and investigations are underway. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about fire safety compliance in coaching centres and commercial buildings, particularly in densely populated urban areas where emergency exits and safety systems are often inadequate.
The tragedy has triggered widespread calls for stricter enforcement of fire safety regulations and accountability for any negligence that may have contributed to the loss of lives.
