Congress Is the Voice of India’s Soul, Says Rahul Gandhi on Party’s Foundation Day
On its 140th anniversary, Rahul Gandhi says the Congress will continue to defend the Constitution and democratic values.
New Delhi: Marking the 140th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress on Sunday, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi said the Congress is not just a political organisation but represents the “voice of India’s soul.” He said the party has always stood with the weak, the deprived and hardworking people of the country.
Rahul Gandhi attended the Foundation Day event held at the party’s headquarters, Indira Bhawan, in New Delhi. Addressing party workers and supporters, he highlighted the Congress party’s historical role in shaping modern India.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Gandhi said the party remains committed to fighting for truth and courage, and to protecting the Constitution. He added that the Congress would continue to oppose hatred, injustice and what he described as dictatorial tendencies.
Extending greetings to party members across the country, he said the Foundation Day was an occasion to remember the sacrifices made by Congress leaders and workers during the freedom struggle. He noted that these efforts helped India gain independence and laid the foundation for the Constitution.
Rahul Gandhi also said the Congress has played a key role in strengthening democracy and promoting values such as secularism, social justice and equality. He called upon party members to remain united and continue working for the ideals on which the party was built.
The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885 and remains one of the country’s oldest political parties.
