The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a nationwide one day mass hunger strike on July 16 in solidarity with noted educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who continues his indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Wangchuk joined the student led agitation demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in national examinations and seeking reforms in the country’s examination system. According to CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Wangchuk’s health has deteriorated significantly after 18 days of fasting, with reports indicating a weight loss of around 8.5 kilograms and considerable physical weakness.

The worsening health condition has also led to legal efforts seeking urgent medical intervention and supervised healthcare support. Despite appeals from several political leaders and public figures, Wangchuk has reportedly decided to continue his fast until the government initiates meaningful dialogue with the protesting students and youth groups.

Alongside the announcement of the July 16 hunger strike, the CJP unveiled its proposed Five Point Examination Reform Charter, calling for major structural changes aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and public confidence in India’s examination system.

The organization stated that the reform proposals seek stronger mechanisms to prevent examination irregularities, improve data transparency, and ensure stricter implementation of laws related to public examinations.

The July 16 protest is also being seen as a build up to the organization’s proposed “Chalo Sansad” Peaceful Parliament March scheduled for July 20, coinciding with the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

According to the organizers, more than 1.3 lakh people have already expressed support for the movement through a nationwide missed call campaign, reflecting growing public concern over examination reforms and student related issues.

The movement has also received support and attention from various political leaders, social activists, and members of the public, further increasing pressure on the authorities to engage in dialogue and address the concerns being raised.
