The move comes shortly after Shivakumar took charge as chief minister and is being viewed as one of his first major administrative measures aimed at improving governance and public service delivery.

In addition to enforcing office attendance, the state government has announced the introduction of a new Artificial Intelligence and GPS based attendance system. The new mechanism will replace the existing biometric attendance process and will be mandatory for all government employees.

According to the government order, the chief minister issued the directive during a review meeting held on June 4. He instructed that every officer and staff member must be present at their workplace by 10 am without fail.

The order also highlighted that the Department of e Governance has already developed the Karthavya App, which includes information on all government officers and employees registered under the Human Resource Management System.

However, officials have found that many employees are not regularly using the application. As a result, all departments have been directed to ensure that staff members use the app consistently for attendance tracking and monitoring.

The government said the new measures are intended to improve transparency, strengthen administrative efficiency, and ensure better accountability in the delivery of public services across Karnataka.
