CJP Removes Spokesperson Vijita Dahiya Over Viral Burger Video Controversy
The party calls the incident insensitive and against the principles of the ongoing student movement over exam irregularities.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has removed its national spokesperson Vijita Dahiya from all official positions following controversy over a viral video recorded during the ongoing protest against alleged examination irregularities in New Delhi.
The party said Dahiya’s conduct in the video was insensitive, unacceptable, and against the values of the movement. The action came at a time when protesters at Jantar Mantar were facing police action, including baton charges and tear gas, while videos showing the spokesperson’s activities near the protest site sparked criticism.
In an official statement, CJP strongly criticised the former spokesperson’s behaviour, saying that when students, citizens, and members of the protest movement were dealing with police action, arrests, and difficult circumstances, such conduct damaged the image and purpose of the campaign.
The party leadership said it would not tolerate carelessness or a lack of seriousness from any leader or office bearer involved in the movement for students’ rights and public concerns.
The controversy began after a video circulated on social media showing Vijita Dahiya inside a burger outlet at a shopping mall near the protest location. Some protesters and citizens questioned her presence there, asking why she was eating at a restaurant while young demonstrators were facing police action on the streets.
In a response video, Dahiya said she had been working continuously for the past one and a half months and claimed that she had not eaten the burger because she avoids refined flour and trans fats. However, her explanation did not reduce public criticism, especially due to earlier remarks she had made on sensitive social issues.
The controversy has emerged during a major protest campaign led by CJP against alleged failures in the examination system and its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. During a march towards Parliament, police placed security barriers and attempted to control the protesters, resulting in injuries and detentions.
Political observers believe the party’s decision to remove its spokesperson was aimed at protecting the credibility of the wider movement and maintaining public confidence. Protest organisers have reiterated that their campaign for transparent examinations, student rights, and economic security for young people will continue despite individual controversies.
