BJP Makes Major Gains in Muslim Majority Districts of West Bengal
The BJP has sharply increased its seat count in six Muslim majority districts, while the TMC has seen a significant decline compared to the 2021 Assembly elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has recorded a strong rise in its performance across six Muslim majority districts of West Bengal in the 2026 Assembly election trends and results.
According to figures available till around 1 PM during the counting process, the BJP won or led in 49 out of 118 seats across Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and Birbhum. This accounts for nearly 42 percent of the total seats in these districts.
In comparison, the party had secured only 14 seats in the same districts during the 2021 Assembly elections.
The Trinamool Congress, which had dominated these regions in 2021 with 103 seats, has seen its numbers fall sharply. Based on the latest trends, the party is now leading or winning in 57 seats.
The BJP’s biggest gains were reported from South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas.
In Murshidabad, the BJP increased its tally from 2 seats in 2021 to 6 seats in 2026. In Malda, the party moved up from 4 to 7 seats, while in Uttar Dinajpur it improved from 2 to 4 seats.
South 24 Parganas witnessed one of the most notable shifts, where the BJP went from winning no seats in 2021 to securing 11 seats in the current trends. In North 24 Parganas, the party’s tally rose from 5 seats to 15 seats.
Birbhum also showed a major jump for the BJP, where it increased its count from 1 seat to 6 seats.
At the same time, the TMC faced losses across all six districts when compared to its previous election performance.
Reports indicate that the Muslim population in these districts ranges between 26 percent and 66 percent, with the average Muslim population estimated at around 44 percent.
The data also noted that in the 2021 elections, one seat in these districts was won by the Indian Secular Front. In the current election trends, other parties are reportedly leading in 12 seats.
