Bengaluru Tragedy: Hospital Wall Collapse During Heavy Rain Kills 7, Including Two Children
A sudden downpour in Shivaji Nagar turned deadly as a compound wall came crashing down on pedestrians taking shelter beneath it.

A heavy spell of rain in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening turned into a deadly disaster after a compound wall of the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivaji Nagar collapsed, killing at least seven people, including two children. Seven others were injured in the incident.
The tragedy struck around 5:30 pm when a sudden burst of rain and thunder forced pedestrians and street vendors to take cover under tarpaulin sheets fixed against the hospital wall. According to eyewitnesses, strong winds and the weight of the rain caused the wall to suddenly give way, burying those standing beneath it under the debris. The city had recorded 78.0 mm of rainfall by 5:30 pm.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the site later in the evening to assess the situation. He announced a compensation of 5 lakh rupees for the families of each victim and assured that a full inquiry would be carried out. “An investigation will be conducted into this incident, and strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible,” he said. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also cancelled his scheduled meetings and rushed to the spot to oversee the rescue operations.
Shivaji Nagar MLA Rizwan Arshad confirmed that the injured were being treated at various hospitals and were now out of danger. Meanwhile, Opposition leader R. Ashoka strongly criticised the government, calling the incident a clear case of administrative negligence. He said the loss of innocent lives was a tragedy that could have been prevented.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the collapse and the structural condition of the wall. The hospital is located in a densely populated part of the city, with thousands of people passing through the area every day.
