Bengaluru to Goa Vande Bharat Train Likely to Launch Before Monsoon
Railways complete electrification and prepare for trial runs on key coastal route

The much anticipated Vande Bharat train service connecting Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Madgaon is expected to begin operations before the monsoon season this year.
Railway authorities have completed electrification along the route, which is a crucial requirement for running the semi high speed train. Trial runs are likely to start before June, as additional work to strengthen tracks and improve capacity continues in several sections.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently confirmed that the new service will be introduced soon. The Vande Bharat trains are designed to run faster than conventional trains, offering improved travel time and comfort.
However, speed limitations remain a challenge on certain parts of the route. The 55 kilometre stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya passes through a steep ghat section where trains can travel only up to 30 kilometres per hour for safety reasons. Increasing this limit is considered difficult due to the terrain. Despite this, railway officials are working to enhance speeds in other parts of the route.
The final timetable and list of station stops have not yet been announced. Preliminary plans suggest the train will operate between Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru and Madgaon in Goa. An early draft timetable did not include stops at Mangaluru Central or Mangaluru Junction, but this is not final.
There is strong public and political demand for a stop in Mangaluru. Members of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have indicated that efforts are being made to ensure the city is included in the route.
