All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) founder and chief Badruddin Ajmal has strongly criticised Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s recent remarks advocating the establishment of a “Hindu Rashtra”, describing the idea as unrealistic and contrary to India’s pluralistic character.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati on Sunday, Ajmal said India is a nation of diverse religions, cultures and communities, making the concept of a Hindu nation impractical.

“This is madness. India is home to people belonging to all religions and thousands of communities. How can it become a Hindu nation? It is merely a dream, and those pursuing such dreams are being unrealistic,” Ajmal remarked.

He further stressed that India’s strength lies in its diversity and coexistence, and any attempt to impose a single religious identity would ignore the country’s foundational principles and multicultural heritage.

Ajmal’s comments come amid an ongoing political debate triggered by Baba Ramdev’s recent statements regarding the idea of establishing a Hindu Rashtra. The remarks have generated reactions from leaders across different political parties and ideological backgrounds.

During his interaction with the media, the AIUDF leader also commented on several other national and regional issues, including the alleged pushback of Bangladeshi nationals from Assam, recurring urban flooding in Guwahati, the controversy surrounding Ram temple donation funds, the arrest of Pranab Doley, the Uniform Civil Code debate in West Bengal, and recommendations concerning the suspension of Chief Ministers and Prime Ministers following prolonged detention.

The discussion reflects the continuing political and social debate over the nature of India’s constitutional identity and its diverse democratic framework.
