Authorities Inspect Incomplete Highway Work and Drainage Issues in Bhatkal Amid Public Anger
Residents fear severe flooding during monsoon as unfinished drainage work along National Highway raises concerns

Bhatkal: Growing public concern over incomplete National Highway expansion work and poor drainage arrangements ahead of the monsoon prompted local authorities to inspect several key locations in Bhatkal on Monday.
The inspection was carried out by the Assistant Commissioner, Tahsildar, DYSP, municipal officials, and representatives of IRB Company. Members of the local social organization Majlis Islah wa Tanzeem also joined the visit.
Residents have been raising complaints about the slow progress of the four lane highway expansion project in the coastal town, which is an important commercial hub in Coastal Karnataka. Citizens warned that the unfinished stormwater drainage system could lead to serious flooding once heavy rains begin.
During the inspection, local people informed officials that rainwater could accumulate on the highway due to incomplete drainage work. They also expressed fears that water may enter nearby shops and residential houses, causing major damage to property and creating difficulties for the public.
People also voiced strong anger over the unusual delay in the highway project and accused the IRB Company of negligence in completing the work on time.
Officials instructed the company representatives to complete and clear the drainage channels before the monsoon season begins to prevent inconvenience and possible flooding in the area.
