Passport Fees Increased After 14 Years; New Charges Effective From July 1
Fresh passports, Tatkaal services and replacement documents to become costlier under revised fee structure announced by the government.

The central government has increased passport service fees for the first time in nearly 14 years, with the revised charges coming into effect from July 1, 2026. Under the new fee structure, applicants will have to pay higher charges for fresh passports, renewals, Tatkaal services and replacement documents.
A normal 36-page passport for applicants aged 18 years and above will now cost ₹2,500, compared to the existing fee of ₹1,500. The Tatkaal service fee for the same category has been increased from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000.
The fee for a 60-page passport has also been revised. Applicants will now have to pay ₹3,500 under the normal category and ₹6,000 under Tatkaal service, compared to the earlier charges of ₹2,000 and ₹4,000 respectively.
The revised rates will also affect applicants seeking replacement of lost or damaged passports. A replacement 36-page passport will cost ₹5,000 under the normal scheme and ₹7,500 under Tatkaal, while the charges for a 60-page replacement passport have been fixed at ₹6,000 and ₹8,500 respectively.
For minors below 18 years, a new or reissued 36-page passport will cost ₹1,750 under the normal category and ₹4,250 under Tatkaal. Replacement charges for lost or damaged passports for minors have also been increased. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) notified the revised fee structure through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026. The new charges will apply to all passport applications submitted on or after July 1.
Other passport-related services, including Police Clearance Certificates, Surrender Certificates and verification services, will also see revised charges. Emergency Certificates issued within India will continue to remain free, while charges will apply for services provided abroad.
The last major revision in passport fees was carried out in 2012, when the cost of a standard passport was increased from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 and Tatkaal charges were raised from ₹2,500 to ₹3,500.
