Akbaruddin Owaisi Seeks Protection of 1,264 Acres of Waqf Land at Alur Sharif
AIMIM floor leader urges Telangana government to halt proposed transfer and protect Waqf property from third party claims
Hyderabad: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take immediate steps to protect 1,264 acres of Waqf land attached to Dargah Hazrat Syed Shah Makhdoom Bayabani at Alur Sharif.
In a representation to the Chief Minister, Owaisi sought an immediate halt to any proposal to transfer the land located in Alur I, II and III to the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation. He also called for measures to ensure that no third party is granted rights or interests over the property.
According to the representation, the land is facing proposed acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act. A related notification has reportedly been issued by the land acquisition authorities of Ranga Reddy district.
The issue was earlier raised by the Telangana Waqf Board with the Minority Welfare Department, which submitted a report after consultations with senior officials. Owaisi has now included the matter in a broader representation concerning the protection of Waqf properties in the state.
Owaisi has sought compliance with both the applicable land acquisition provisions and Waqf law if the government proceeds with acquisition for a public purpose. He has also called for the prescribed compensation to be paid to the concerned Waqf institution.
In a recent representation to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Owaisi also sought time bound measures for protecting Waqf properties, recovering encroached land and settling compensation and other dues owed to Waqf institutions.
The latest status of the proposed acquisition of the Alur Sharif property and whether the government has formally halted the process remains unclear.
