44 Year Old Noorani Mosque Demolished During Road Widening Drive in Jaipur, Internet Services Suspended in Area
Authorities carried out a large scale demolition operation in Jaipur's Malviya Nagar, sparking concern among local residents and mosque representatives.

Jaipur: A major demolition drive carried out by local authorities in Jaipur’s Malviya Nagar area on Sunday led to the removal of the 44 year old Noorani Mosque as part of a road widening project.
The operation was conducted by the Jaipur Development Authority with heavy security arrangements in place. Thousands of police personnel and security forces were deployed across the area, while internet services were temporarily suspended in Malviya Nagar and nearby localities. Officials said the restrictions were imposed to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of misinformation during the operation.
According to available records, the mosque had been standing since 1981 on a plot measuring around 391 square yards and had served as a place of worship for local residents for more than four decades.
During the same phase of the anti encroachment campaign, authorities also removed a shrine, two small temples, and a satsang hall. Officials described the action as part of a broader infrastructure and road expansion project affecting multiple structures in the area.
Members of the mosque management committee expressed strong objections to the demolition. They claimed that formal notice was delivered late on Friday, leaving them with little opportunity to seek legal relief before the weekend. Committee representatives also stated that the land had been legally purchased through an approved housing society and that relevant ownership documents were available.
The committee argued that a place of worship that had existed for decades should not have been removed without providing sufficient time for legal review. They have indicated that they plan to challenge the action through the courts.
The Jaipur Development Authority, however, maintained that the structure was obstructing an important road expansion project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area. Officials said the development plan affected a total of 143 properties. According to the authority, 134 structures had already been removed during an earlier phase, while the remaining religious sites were addressed in the latest operation.
Authorities have also offered an alternative plot of approximately 1,100 square yards in the Kho Nagoriyan area for relocation purposes. However, some local residents and mosque representatives argued that a replacement site in a different location cannot fully compensate for the loss of a long established place of worship in a central neighborhood.
The incident comes amid continuing debates across the country regarding urban development projects, encroachment removal drives, and the treatment of religious structures. Community leaders in Jaipur have appealed for peace and restraint while also stating that they intend to pursue legal remedies through higher courts.
