25 Lakh Properties in Bengaluru Brought Under e Khata System, Says D K Shivakumar
Deputy Chief Minister highlights push for transparency as government expands digital property records

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has announced that more than 25 lakh properties in Bengaluru have been brought under the e Khata system, marking a major step in digitising property records in the city.
The e Khata is an online property certificate that stores ownership details in a digital format. According to Shivakumar, the initiative is designed to improve accuracy, transparency, and ensure wider coverage for property owners.
Speaking at a press conference in Bengaluru, he said that while over 25 lakh properties have been included, more than 7,000 applications have already been processed. The government is also planning outreach efforts to assist those who have not yet registered.
He described the milestone as significant, noting that the scale of implementation is unprecedented. The system is being developed to include GPS mapping, property dimensions, photographs, and supporting documents for each entry.
Shivakumar explained that Aadhaar integration, digital records, and property sketches are being combined to build a comprehensive and reliable database. The aim is to ensure that all property records are complete and accurate.
To make the process more accessible, the government has set up over 50 centres across Bengaluru, many of them in government schools. These centres will help residents apply for new e Khata certificates or correct existing records. A special drive, referred to as Khata Mela, is also being organised to speed up the process.
Applicants whose documents need verification will receive an acknowledgement and be asked to return after about 15 days, during which officials will carry out site inspections.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said that steps have been taken to identify properties wrongly listed as roads in revenue records, adding that such lands belong to the government.
He noted that the initiative has received recognition from the Union government as a model for the rest of the country. Looking ahead, the government expects around 10 lakh more households to benefit from the programme and has promised free home delivery of e Khata documents, including printed copies for those who need them.
On apartment registrations, he said all flats that have received occupancy certificates have been cleared under the system, covering over 37,000 units.
