Bhatkal: Bhatkal Town Police have arrested a young man named Mehran Mehtab following a complaint filed by a young woman on January 17. According to her statement, the accused had been contacting her for several months through different Instagram accounts.

The victim reported that Mehran pretended to be a girl while chatting with her. He used three fake Instagram profiles “pookie_alyan,” “Celeste_saraah,” and “arwan.adventure” to communicate with her regularly. Through continuous chatting, he gained her trust, and without realizing his true identity, she shared personal photos of herself and her family members.

When the young woman discovered the truth about his real identity, the situation took a disturbing turn. Mehran began using her photos to send her threatening and obscene messages. The harassment continued for an extended period, causing significant distress to the victim.

Unable to bear the constant harassment any longer, the young woman decided to take legal action. She visited the Bhatkal Town Police Station and filed an official complaint, demanding a thorough investigation and legal action against the accused.

Police responded quickly to the complaint and arrested Mehran Mehtab immediately. The same night, he was presented before a magistrate and was subsequently taken into police custody for further questioning.

During the search, officers recovered a laptop and a mobile phone from Mehran’s possession. These devices are currently being examined by investigators. Police officials stated that they expect to uncover more evidence based on the digital data found on these devices, and legal proceedings are ongoing.

Authorities have issued a public appeal asking anyone else who may have experienced harassment or deception through the mentioned Instagram accounts to come forward immediately. Police emphasized that additional complaints from other potential victims would help strengthen the case and ensure proper legal action is taken.

The case highlights growing concerns about online safety and the misuse of social media platforms for harassment and blackmail. Police continue to investigate whether there are other victims who have not yet come forward.
