‘Will be forced to protest again’: CJP warns govt, asks it to drop FIRs against protesters
The organisation urged the Centre to honour its assurances by dropping all cases against student protesters and releasing those in custody.
The Cockroach Janta Party on Monday warned that it would launch another round of protests if the government does not withdraw all police cases filed against student demonstrators.
In a statement posted on X, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka called on the Central government, particularly Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, to ensure that no criminal cases are filed against protesters. He also demanded the immediate release of all students who have been detained.
Ranka said the organisation expects all existing FIRs against protesters to be withdrawn and no new cases to be registered by the Delhi Police, Central investigative agencies or police forces in BJP governed and allied states. He warned that the CJP would return to the streets if these assurances were not fulfilled.
His statement came after similar remarks from CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, who expressed concern over reports that students and other protesters were being detained, arrested and subjected to legal action.
According to Das, the organisation had ended its earlier protest only after receiving assurances from the government that no legal or police action would be taken against participants and volunteers involved in demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and other locations across the country.
Das said the CJP is closely monitoring the situation and expects both the Central government and BJP led state governments to act responsibly and honour the commitments they had made.
AISA national president Neha Bora also urged the government to keep its promise and withdraw all cases filed against student protesters.
Speaking to reporters, Bora said the Union government had assured students that no new cases would be registered over protests related to the alleged paper leak and that existing cases would be withdrawn. She alleged that hundreds of students remain in jail across Bihar and criticised the use of serious criminal charges, including attempted murder, against those who took part in the demonstrations.
