Uttara Kannada Cracks Down on Fake Doctors, DC Warns of Strict Legal Action
District administration says illegal medical practice will not be tolerated and promises immediate action on complaints.
The Uttara Kannada district administration has issued a strong warning against fake doctors and illegal medical practitioners, stating that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found offering medical treatment without proper qualifications or authorization.
Chairing a meeting of the KPME Registration and Grievance Redressal Authority in Karwar, Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya directed health officials to thoroughly investigate every complaint related to fake doctors and take action in accordance with the law.
She said a special district level task force has already been formed to identify illegal clinics and unqualified practitioners. Officials have been instructed to impose the maximum penalties, shut down unauthorized clinics, and register criminal cases wherever necessary.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that only qualified and licensed medical professionals are permitted to provide treatment. She warned that anyone found practicing medicine or distributing medicines without legal approval would face strict action.
Health Department officials have also been instructed to conduct regular inspections of private clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes across all taluks in the district to monitor and prevent illegal medical activities.
According to information presented at the meeting, action has been taken against seven fake doctors for violating the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act since April 2026. Their clinics have been sealed, and fines totaling ₹1.45 lakh have been recovered.
The meeting was attended by District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Sanjay Doddamani, District AYUSH Officer Dr. Jagadish Yaji, representatives of the Indian Medical Association, other medical organizations, social workers, and government officials.
