Two Killed and Dozens Missing After Massive Landslide Hits Wayanad Tunnel Project
Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide at a tunnel construction site in Kerala's Wayanad district, leaving several workers trapped under debris.

Wayanad: A massive landslide triggered by continuous heavy rain has claimed the lives of two workers and left more than 30 people missing at a tunnel construction site in Kerala’s Wayanad district.
The incident occurred near Meenakshi Bridge at the Wayanad Tunnel Project in the Meppadi area. The disaster comes nearly two years after the devastating Chooralmala landslide, reviving painful memories for residents of the region.
According to initial reports, around 20 workers remain trapped beneath large piles of mud and debris. Rescue teams fear the number of casualties could rise as search operations continue.
The landslide also buried hundreds of vehicles at the construction site, making rescue efforts more challenging.
Local residents were among the first to respond and managed to rescue six workers before emergency teams arrived. The injured were shifted to Dr. Moopens Medical College Hospital in Meppadi for treatment.
The rescued workers have been identified as Heera Suresh, Dilip, Suraj, Sanjay Thapur, Rajneesh and Tanmay Ghosh. Hospital officials said one of the injured is in critical condition.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing as authorities work to locate those still trapped or missing beneath the debris.
