According to available information, the baby’s mother, Hema, delivered the girl through a normal delivery at the Shirali Community Health Centre three days earlier. The mother said the baby was examined after birth and that doctors had described her condition as satisfactory.

However, the newborn’s health reportedly deteriorated suddenly on Wednesday morning. She was placed under medical supervision and later shifted to the neonatal intensive care unit for treatment.

According to Hema, doctors and nurses tried to treat the baby, but the family was informed approximately 30 minutes later that she had died.

The sudden loss left the parents and other family members devastated. They raised concerns about the treatment provided at the hospital and alleged that negligence by the medical staff may have contributed to the death.

The baby’s father, Satish Naik, expressed serious concern over the incident and demanded that the exact cause of death be established. He urged the authorities to conduct a fair and comprehensive investigation and take strict legal action against those responsible if medical negligence is established.

Hospital sources have offered a different account of the circumstances. According to them, the mother had fed the baby on Wednesday morning, and there is a suspicion that milk may have entered the baby’s airway, causing breathing difficulties.

The sources said the newborn’s condition suddenly worsened at around 11:30 AM. Doctors and medical staff reportedly made efforts to save her life, but the baby could not be revived.

Following the incident, personnel from Bhatkal Rural Police Station visited the Shirali Community Health Centre and gathered information from the parents and hospital staff. Statements were also recorded as part of the preliminary inquiry.

Police said further legal action would be taken according to procedure after receiving a written complaint.

The exact cause of the newborn’s death and the parents’ allegations of medical negligence remain to be established.
