Addressing the public for the first time as Chief Minister at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Vijay declared that a new chapter focused on “real secularism and social justice” had begun in Tamil Nadu.

The actor turned politician made it clear that there would be no parallel centres of authority in his government.

“There will be no power centre other than me. I will be the only centre of power,” Vijay said, adding that he would personally take responsibility for the administration’s decisions and policies.

Vijay also confirmed that he has resigned from the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency while retaining the Perambur seat. According to the State Assembly Secretariat, his resignation letter was submitted before he assumed office as Chief Minister.

Appealing for patience, Vijay asked the people of Tamil Nadu to give his government reasonable time to fulfil election promises and implement reforms.

Speaking about the state’s financial condition, he said the government is considering releasing a white paper to provide transparency regarding Tamil Nadu’s economy and debt situation.

“I have taken responsibility at a time when the state is carrying a debt burden of more than Rs 10 lakh crore. We want the people to clearly know the financial position of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Vijay also promised strict action against drug related crimes and assured the public that his administration would remain corruption free.

“I will not touch even a single paisa belonging to the people,” he said.

The Chief Minister thanked Congress, VCK, IUML, and Left parties for supporting the alliance that helped form the government.

In an emotional moment during his speech, Vijay thanked children who affectionately call him “Vijay Mama.” He said their support played an important role in TVK’s victory because they encouraged their families to vote for the party.

“I will repay this love by working for your future. Vijay Mama will always stand by you,” he said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also congratulated Vijay and the ruling alliance after the swearing in ceremony.
